Incorporated Village of Asharoken

                                                October 27, 2008

Dear Resident,

I have some important information to disclose to the residents of Asharoken that can not wait until the next quarterly newsletter.

First of all, the appeal of our law suit against LILCO, now National Grid, has been scheduled for oral arguments. The appeal will be held in the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Second Department, 45 Monroe Pl., Brooklyn, NY, on Thursday, November 6, 2008, at 10:00am. Spectators are permitted.

Next, Trustees Affrunti, Masterson and I created an ad hoc Asharoken Village Hall Committee to move forward with planning our new Village Hall. They, with members of the old committee and several other interested residents discussed the proposed new building as well as alternatives. They discussed the necessary approvals that will be required from other agencies, such as Suffolk County Department of Health Services and NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. They recognize that these agencies may dictate the size, location and scope of this project and all agreed that determining those parameters is the next step in the process. All in attendance also agreed to explore Green Initiatives, of environmentally friendly building techniques in any construction plans. I intend to formally appoint this new committee shortly.

Finally, I hope you have all noticed the new utilities poles lining Asharoken Avenue.  I recognize that this may cause some inconvenience.  However, these new poles, with new technology, should withstand winter’s worst, and provide more reliable service.

With the next quarterly newsletter, due out in the first months of the New Year, the Trustees and I hope to address the Village’s fiscal status.

In the meantime, I look forward to seeing you all at the Asharoken Village Residents Holiday Party on Sunday, November 23, 2008.

                                                Very truly yours,

                                                Patricia Irving, Mayor
