Mayor Letica opened up the meeting to discuss a shoulder repair damaged due to Hurricane Sandy.
He discussed the undermining that occurred north of house 501 Asharoken Avenue on the west side of the roadway. He noted that the village had to wait to repair the damaged area of the roadway shoulder until Verizon and National Grid could repair their existing lines; now that they have completed their repairs the village can complete the project. He reported that Tony Wenderoth our Highway Superintendent along with Andy Mendelsohn developed sketches and a Request for Proposal for contractors to provide estimates for the work that is needed to repair this area of the roadway.
He reported that the village sent out three RFP packages and received two bids back in writing.
1. D & S Stone Construction Corporation for $12,480.00
2. LaMay & Sons, Inc. for $14,750.00
The board reviewed the bids and spoke to Tony Wenderoth on the phone requesting his recommendation. The board also discussed how the shoulder will be repaired what type and size of rebar will be used to secure the new concrete into the existing roadway as well as the type of concrete to be used. Mayor Letica also discussed that the concrete forms need to be properly set to avoid any disturbance to the existing utility lines; he requested that the contractor be made aware of all the existing lines.
Mayor Letica put forth a resolution to approve the contractor.
Resolution (2012-98) Be It Resolved that the Village Board approves the hiring of D & S Stone Construction Corp. for the purpose of repairing the shoulder of the roadway north of 501 Asharoken Avenue and south of the sea wall for $12,480.00.
